WHAT IS DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATION:

Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) are the digital equivalent (i.e electronic format) of physical or paper certificates. A digital certificate can be presented electronically to prove one’s identity, to access information or services on the Internet or to sign certain documents digitally.

EXAMPLES OF PHYSICAL CERTIFICATES ARE:

  • Drivers' licenses
  • Passports or
  • Membership cards.

TYPES OF DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATE

  • Class 1 - The name and email address of individuals can be verified. This is not to be used by companies
  • Class 2 - A Class 2 digital signature certificate verifies the identity of a person against a pre-verified, trusted database. This is the one needed for companies or trusts to file their tax returns
  • Class 3 - This is the highest level where the person needs to present himself or herself in front of a Registration Authority (RA) and prove his/ her identity.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR DSC:

  • The application form from the applicant
  • ID photo as proof – Copy of Pan or (in case of foreign national – Passport)
  • Address proof – Aadhar Card
  • Passport Size photo of the applicant
  • Email address
  • Phone number

VALIDITY OF DSC

There are different types of digital signature certificate available and while getting one, you can choose the validity duration as well

  • Minimum OF 1 year and
  • Maximum of 3 years
